Jay Electronica
I've always been confused why Jay Electronica isn't more popular than he is. It probably has something to do with the fact that he has yet to release a full length album. Maybe it's his refusal to exploit main stream media's marketing outlets. Or maybe it's because he likes the shade from the limelight. In any case his music speaks for itself and could easily propel him to stardom whenever he's ready for it.
Everyone from Nas to Just Blaze speaks highly of his work. Building his buzz from internet reputation and word of mouth he has gained more and more attention over the years. The following video is what turned me on to his work:
Here is a teaser trailer for his "Exhibit A" video:
Born Je'Ri Allah in 1976 Jay grew up in the Magnolia projects of New Orleans until the age of 19. The years that followed he spent traveling between New York, Atlanta, Detroit and Baltimore where he adopted the alias Jay Electronica. It was while he was in Detroit that he began working closely with engineer Mike "Chav" Chavarria. Among his self-released recordings on the internet a few stood out to help create a buzz around him; notably "Act 1," "Extra Extra," and "Bitches and Drugs."
Here is a video of "Act 1" which is a homemade rap over Jon Brion's score for the film Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind:
Keep your attention on Jay Electronica. He's got a promising future in the music industry ahead of him; assuming he decides to take it.

The music at the beginning of the second video is in eternal sunshine of the spotless mind (although without his lyrics) - pretty sick stuff!
